RÉVOLUTION

Paris, to me, is a photo I took of Place de la Bastille, where the greatest modern revolution began. The obelisk, reflected in the water below, appears upside down. This inversion reminds me the overthrow of the ancien régime in favor of a more egalitarian coexistence that adopted principles of fraternity and liberty. However, this overturning, aside from some dramatic twists, years later turned out to be merely an illusion, like the reflection of the image on the water.

This work, still in development, explores the character of a great metropolis that attracts millions of people every year, and whose citizens do not hesitate to make their voices heard in defense of their rights or in the fight against injustices. Young people, workers, retirees come together when their freedom is threatened, their rights are at risk, or when there is a war and the call for peace must be heard.

All the photographs have been taken in 35mm film in 2024.
